A fresh start
Welcome to the new Diary/Blog! I moved it here as it is sooo much easier to update, and the old one was getting pretty clogged. I've put the old Diary entries below just to keep things tidy.
Very soon I will be re-arranging the website quite dramatically, as I'll admit I'm having a hard time keeping it up to date at present. All the Saints pages will stay put (and hopefully I'll get the others up sometime this century!! :P). The Saint of the Month page will also remain, as will the Prayers, Intentions and Rosary Pages. You may have noticed a while ago I put up some new buttons (Study, Amusing Stories etc, etc). These were all meant to be new projects, but unfortunately I never found the time to see them through and I will have to let a few go. One or two of them however will be remaining so keep a watch out for them soon!
On a more positive note, it's nearly the websites first birthday! Woo!! I launched it on the 6th July 07 (St Maria's Feast Day).
Look out for updates soon!!
Cheery waves from Devon to wherever you are in the world!! :D

Old Diary Entry #3
Catholic Books and other Items
Hi folks!
Sorry it has been a while since I last posted. My Mum and I
are getting ready to relocate to the West of Devon in about
a week or so (fingers and toes crossed!) where we will be
running our own guest house business. Please pray that all
goes well for us with the move as it has been an uphill
struggle all the way!
I have been meaning to write about some good books I have
recently read and can highly reccommend :D. Also I have a
number of websites that are selling traditional Christmas
items if anyone is interested.
Books
I have bought most of my books from Southwell Books. They have
a very good selection and only sell Catholic books.
Plus they have a fast, safe delivery service.

Junia
As the beautiful daughter of a Roman senator, Junia enjoyed
the best that life had to offer in first-century Rome. She
was grateful and anxious to please her family, a dutiful and
obedient young woman of privilege. That is, until a chance
friendship and its abrupt end sparks an interest in a new
religion that will lead to a destiny she never imagined.
Junia is a fictional exploration of life at the very
beginning of Christianity from a very personal point
of view. It shows how the attractions of the new religion
were accompanied by social struggle, family division, and
the risk of a disgraceful death to those courageous enough
to embrace it.
I thought this book was really fantastic. Don't be put off
by its length. It lacks no depth by its shortness. It
is aimed at teenagers but I think people of all ages can
enjoy it. I also think it would be a great book for
non-catholics who want to learn more about the early church
and catholicism. It is simply written, very moving and
inspiring. I couldn't put it down and ended up reading it
in one day. If you are fond of the stories of the early Roman
Martyrs (St Agnes, St Cecelia, St Lucy) you will enjoy reading this.
A wonderful read.
Marcus
The sequel to Junia. In second-century Rome, Marcus tries to
resume his life as a student of philosophy at the Athenaeum.
His sister, Junia, had been executed in the Amphitheatre for
the crime of becoming a Christian. A few weeks after her death,
Marcus himself is saved from being run over by a reckless
charioteer. A young passer-by, a Samarian, instinctively throws
him out of the path of danger. And through this selfless act of
a stranger, Marcus is led to share a new world based on truth
and love, but a world beset with new dangers.
Continuing the story of Junia and of early Christian experience
in the Roman Empire, Marcus reveals how the followers of Jesus,
the Christ, began to transform pagan society. Social and family
connections intertwine with friendship and betrayal, prejudice
and loyalty, as those who are drawn to Christianity must make
decisions that define their own lives and forever change the
world in which they live. Suitable for adults and teenagers.
A great sequel to Junia. This book portrays many different aspects
of Christian life and follows many more characters within the story.
We get to see how good example set by the Christians sowed the seed
of faith far and wide. Another compelling read, again I couldn't put
it down!
Both these titles can be found in the Catholic Fiction section of Southwell Books.

Christmas Items
Are you looking for traditional religious Christmas cards, advents
calenders or decorations?
Tired of the Godless stuff you find in the shops that in no way
acknowledges the true meaning of Christmas?
Here is a collection of websites that sell a good selection of traditional items:
Cenacle Catholic Books and Gifts
JMJ Products- Totally Catholic
The Cukierski Family Apostolate
Southwell Books
All these sites have things for Christmas. Some have a seperate page for Christmas items
Enjoy!
I will very shortly be adding more Saints stories to the website, plus more prayers and some interesting links. Keep an eye out for St Agnes', St Edward's and St Dominic's stories!

Old Diary Entry #1
Feast Day- ST MARIA GORETTI
Website Launched!
Welcome all believers and non- believers to the Lilies of Purity website :). This place is a bit of a work-in-progress, but i'll explain a little of what i'm hoping to do.
First of all i'm trying to promote devotion to a number of Saints whose example we would do well to follow in these last difficult days when the world seems to have gone mad. Four of the ten biographies are now completed for you to read (St Maria, St Dymphna, St Philomena and St Lucy) I will put the others up as soon as possible, so stay tuned :).
I hope to offer a small lifeline to those people who maybe are struggling alone with their faith, who have little contact with fellow believers. There will be a weekly rosary (set on a particular day) so people can know that there are other people praying at the same time they are. I will also post a monthly novena (this month is St Martha). There is a page of devotions, particular things we need to pray for (maybe things that are happening in the world today). These things, I hope, will also encourage non-believers or people new to the faith to join in praying and practising the faith.
This Diary I will update on an as-and-when basis, whenever something pops into my head! ;) Also updates to the site will be listed here.
There are pages on particular Christian prayers, and a page on how to pray the Rosary, for those that are unfamiliar with it.
I will post a Saint of the Month, where there will be the Saints story, articles, prayers and other information on them (St Maria Goretti is the Saint for July).
Lastly there is a page of Articles and a page of Links all of which are very interesting and I urge you to explore them with an open mind.
I hope you enjoy browsing this site, and if you have any ideas or questions please don't hesitate to contact me
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Lucy Drury
